TIME COLLAPSE - Night to day (2017, Greece)

Time Collapse 2017

Time Collapse is a rather new band from Athens, Greece, which I discovered very recently through the Progarchives platform. Being from Greece as well, I’m always trying to pay attention and support bands that come from my country, assuming that they worth it. I have to admit that during the last 10 years, many bands appeared in Greece that are pretty interesting, to say the least. One of those bands is Time Collapse without a doubt.

MIKE OLDFIELD - Return to Ommadawn (2017, UK)

Mike Oldfield Return to Ommadawn

Mike Oldfield is back! You know, the extremely talented musician who recorded some real masterpieces in the past, like Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn,  etc. So, after  a series of rather unsuccessful albums, (that had nothing to offer, really), he decided to surprise us with this new brilliant album!

SOEN - Lykaia (2017, Multi-National)

Soen Lykaia

For those who aren’t familiar with the name of Soen, I have to announce to you that this is a band with experienced and very gifted musicians, that all of them participated in other famous bands before gather up and form Soen. So, here you can find ex-members from Opeth, Amon Amarth, Iced Earth, Testament etc.

EVERSHIP - Evership (2016, US)

EVERSHIPs cover

This is definitely one of the biggest surprisesfrom the year 2016 for me, and one of the best albums I’ve listened to during this current year. ‘Evership’ was a name that meant nothing to me, until I heard ‘Silver Light’ for the first time. Oh my PROGosh; if you could only see my expression at the time! I felt like a kid that just discovered a new wonderful candy!

OPETH - Sorceress (2016, Sweden)

Opeth 2016

Starting this piece of review I should mention that I never cared for Opeth. Their older albums are simply annoying to my ears. But when their leader Mikael Akkerfeldt started hanging around with Steven Wilson, I thought that maybe something started to change. There has been a huge turn in their music, starting with the album Damnation (2003). Every new release of their shows was a major change in their music and style is in progress so we still don’t know where it goes!
