Pre-listening REVONTULET'S music
Revontulet are a symphonic rock/metal band from Russia, currently in the process of recordng their full debut. Their rich sound is fronted by the female vocals of Alexandra (mezzo-soprano) who gives the distinct operatic feeling in their music.
Revontulet were so kind to send us three tracks (not in the final form) from their upcoming album. What we have here is mainly melodic symphonic metal with a strong operatic touch but well played and dynamic in sound. There is no progressive rock/metal here I am afraid but rather an effort to bring the symphonic/classical element from their Russian background into metal music. Although this is something that has been done before, Revontulet take a very "honest" approach and, boosted by the intensity of the string instruments, produce a satisfying result. Fans of bands such as Nightwish, Epica or Within Temptation will find interest in Revontulet. However, without the full package, it would be unfair to give a "rating" as such but the potential for a good symphonic metal is there.
Of the three tracks (Eternal Autumn, Hear Me (Part II) and Rainheart), Hear Me (Part II) stands out. The band is currently running a crowd-funding campaign, so I would suggest you take a listen to their tracks and act accordingly.
