Anakdota is the second band from Israel that I heard about in the last months (The first one was Distorted Harmony). It seems that the local Prog scene in Israel is in great form, if I can judge from these two bands.
But Anakdota is something totally different and very interesting and special I must admit. I have to say that in order to “digest” their song I had to listen to it 4-5 times to begin with. My first impression was “ah the new Gentle Giant”. Truth is that their music reminds a lot of Gentle Giant. So if you consider yourself a fan of this specific band, then I strongly recommend Anakdota to you. But what about all those who are not so fond of Gentle Giant? Well, I would suggest to listen to this band carefully and then make up your minds because as they said through their contact with us this is “a fresh new prog sound!”, and they are most than right, for sure! These guys are amazingly talented and top-notch musicians, to say the least! What a musicality!
The song they sent us is called “The Girl Next Door” and as I mentioned before it’s their first demo song. I was impressed by the challenging main piano theme, and by the theatrical-like vocals. The band uploaded this song in YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2qzn-d3WCI), and in one month had 11.500 views! Not bad eh? I’m waiting to listen to a couple of more samples of their music before I’ll make up my mind, but this first one is more than promising! Actually, a real prog buzz! Fantastic job guys!
