Swedish acts "A Secret River" seem to have found the perfect balance between the progressive in rock and the catchy melodies. The two samples sent to us prove that there is something big spawning within the trio if they continue on the same route.
Accessible progressive rock, mainly symphonic of the Spock's Beard type but also investing heavily in piano harmonies and a sense of post rock in the way the "tingling" keyboards match the pace of the rhythm section. "A Place to Start" is the more "tradiotionally" composed, slightly longer, progressive rock track with plenty of variation and melodies that stick to your brain. Mid-way through decides to take a more jazzy approach and the improvisations flow freely. The vocals are pretty melow and fit the music nicely. "On the Line" is more like a post-rock lullaby with the dreamy keys escorting it all the way through; or in other words a cleverly-composed prog ballad.
Plenty of promise in these samples, whose quality is on par with the current front-runners of the progressive rock scene. We are looking forward to a full release.
