Elias "ProgFather" Metallinos
My initial thought was to write some words only like…”just listen to it…and there are no words to describe it…”. But after five months of unstoppable listening I decided to write something more for this prog masterpiece. And…this is a rare word for me to use…
PHOENIX AGAIN perform at the top level. I believe that Lorandi brothers (who are the “body” of this group) are like doing their prog dissertation on the music pentagram. And I am curious to know why this record is just their second although they exist since 1981! Whatever proggers want and seek from a record, they can find it here. Power, intensity, melody, fst riffs, but also a distinct style that differentiates them from most of other Italian Prog Bands and from other prog bands as well. And not only this. Their works are perfectly executed giving life in group’s ideas while the listener has a vivid representation of their music which is moving forward like a transactive board and like flowing water. Speaking about production, this is a very good one that adds an excellent finesse on the whole listening experience. The influences from “classic” prog bands (e.g. GENESIS, GENTLE GIANT, KING CRIMSON, PINK FLOYD) can be steadily traced from the “experienced” ear as well as the soundscapes that are similar to newer prog groups, like DREAM THEATER,, with some “guitar heroes” touches and some fusion veils!
This group has something magic on it. It’s lyrical and epic at the same time. Melodic and healthily aggressive. Technical and full of ideas.; travelling you in various soundscapes where you certainly want this ticket to ride. It’s difficult to resist on that; even the indifferent one.
I could write for days about the songs etc., but please, buy the “Look out” record and LISTEN to it actively! It’s already in my 2014 faves and in all of my players.
As a closure, I am just saying that after that experience you will think of yourself as richer, musically.
