MESMERICO - Magnete (2009, Italy)

Thanos Patsos

MESMERICO - MagneteA relatively short-lived duet (were only a trio for a few months when formed around 2001), Mesmerico managed to release Magnete through Octopus Records in 2009, before splitting up shortly afterwards. Can a guitar/drums duet only create progressive rock?

STEVEN WILSON - The raven that refused to sing and other storiesAbout a month ago, Steven Wilson (widely known from his longstanding career with Porcupine Tree, Blackfield, and numerous other musical activities), presented his latest album with this weird title. I’m a fan of Porcupine Tree since their first album. I do possess 10 records of them, all 3 records from Blackfield, and a couple from No-Man. But this is the first record I got from his solo career. And this one is his 3rd released as a solo effort.

PSYCHIC FOR RADIO - Standing wave (2012, U.S.A.)

Thanos Patsos

Pretty much the definition of crossover prog

PSYCHIC FOR RADIOAnd what that means is: a "pool" of influences coming from all around the progressive rock spectrum with a considerable touch of popular music, and not necessarily bad, simply ear-pleasing music.

SISTRA - Bearing (2011, Italy)

Apostolis "Retromaniac" Psarros

SISTRASistra is another band in the Psych/Prog field as the Psych Up Melodies label has gotten used to release, only this time the band is not so obscure. How is that? Simply because it is a creation of Psych Up's leader Fabricio Di Vicino, who is also a very good multi-instrumentalist.

DODSON AND FOGG - Derring Do (2013, U.K.)

DODSON AND FOGG - Derring Do 2013A few days ago we wrote a review about this Prog Folk-Rock band’s first self-titled album that was released in October of 2012. And almost 5 months later, they released their second album named “Derring Do”, which was astonishingly quick. In the previous review, we mentioned that this band tries and succeeds reviving the sound of the Folk-Rock scene of the ‘70’s. Well, as it seems they don’t stop there.

DODSON AND FOGG - Dodson and Fogg (2012, U.K.)

dodson and foggIs there still any breath in the body of the UK Progressive Folk-Rock? Apparently there is still some life left in it as yet, and its condition looks hopeful. The freshly on the stage band DODSON & FOGG seems to be doing a great job in reviving the scene of 70’s English Folk Rock.
