EVERSHIP - Evership (2016, US)

EVERSHIPs cover

This is definitely one of the biggest surprisesfrom the year 2016 for me, and one of the best albums I’ve listened to during this current year. ‘Evership’ was a name that meant nothing to me, until I heard ‘Silver Light’ for the first time. Oh my PROGosh; if you could only see my expression at the time! I felt like a kid that just discovered a new wonderful candy!

OPETH - Sorceress (2016, Sweden)

Opeth 2016

Starting this piece of review I should mention that I never cared for Opeth. Their older albums are simply annoying to my ears. But when their leader Mikael Akkerfeldt started hanging around with Steven Wilson, I thought that maybe something started to change. There has been a huge turn in their music, starting with the album Damnation (2003). Every new release of their shows was a major change in their music and style is in progress so we still don’t know where it goes!

MOTHER TURTLE - II (2016, Greece)

Aeolus

Mother Turtle cover

MOTHER TURTLE are a great Greek prog rock band that debuted in 2013. In their second release, the band have decided to venture into the deep and dire waters of prog eclecticism. I can't wait to see how well they have done!

DIFFERENT LIGHT - The burden of paradise (2016, Czech Republic)

GFreedom Team

DIFFERENT LIGHT

Different Light was formed up in Malta in the first half of the 90’s. Their first album All About  Yourself was released in 1996, and at the peak of their career they supported Marillion’s former singer, Fish, in September of 1998. The next year the band split up, and after a 10-year break they were reformed in 2008, this time in Prague. In 2009 they released the first album of their second period, Icons that Weep, which is a very good example of modern and melodic Progressive Rock. This year they returned with the release of the very good The Burden of Paradise, available in digital form and physical CD as well.
